Mercado das Empadas
Stalls: 156-157
Flávio Tavares, 36 years old, from Alentejo, was born and raised in Casebres, near Álcacer do Sal. From an early age, Flávio remembers seeing his grandfather working in the fields and his grandmother cooking Alentejo delicacies. Every day, whatever the weather, whether it rained or shined, his grandmother would fill the reed basket with her homemade delicacies, and his grandfather would fit it to his bicycle and pedalled towards another day of hard work.
Flávio — passionate about gastronomy —, since he was a child, he has dreamed of taking his Alentejo products to the rest of the country. He started his first business in Lisbon, in 2017, when he opened a shop selling traditional Alentejo pies and other regional products. The success was greater than he expected, and the requests from customers to take his pies to the north of the country were many. By falling in love with a woman from Porto, Flávio was able to respond to all those requests. Thus, he found out about the renovation project of Mercado do Bolhão, and applied for a stall in the market when the public tender was launched.
Presently, with a full heart, Flávio still has the same desire to delight Porto residents and its visitors with his traditional pies and typical convent sweets.
